Public-Private Partnership: Stakeholders chart way forward.
Meeting recently in Douala, the Ministers of State Property and Land Tenure, Henri Eyebe Ayissi; Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries, Dr Taiga; and that of Agriculture and Rural Development, Gabriel Mbairobe, have begun charting the way forward in revamping the agro pastoral sector. The multi-dimensional meeting held within the framework of government’s push for the Public-Private Partnership to be fully developed. The different government Ministers took the stage to present their ministerial department’s orientation to the Public-Private Partnership endeavour. The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, who was the first to take the floor, x-rayed the different efforts, challenges and strategies put in place to guarantee food security.
For his part, Dr. Taiga, Minister of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industry, stressed on the available opportunities in the livestock sector. He called on private firms to invest in them and be accompanied by the government. Minister Henri Eyebe Ayissi, Minister of State Property and Land Tenure, used the forum to drill the stakeholders on the new policies governing the use of state property. He said there are many win-win ventures the private sector can sign up to, to benefit from the available state property.
The President of GICAM, Celestin Tawamba, observed that the nation’s economy is under attack from several fronts. The socio-political crisis in the North West and South West Regions and the BokoHaram insurgency in the Far North have rendered the Regions economically destroyed. Other efforts need to come on board to help revamp the agro-pastoral sector if Cameroon should emerge by 2035. The forum comes barely days after the Minister Delegate at the Ministry of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development, Paul Tasong, commissioned officials of the Competitiveness Committee. This is a clear indication that a lot of energy is being put in to guarantee the economic growth of the nation. It is an undeniable truth that the agro-pastoral sector is a veritable force to reckon with, for a nation that seeks economic growth. The Head of State has been very conscious of this. This has been very evident in his addresses to the youth. He has often urged them to spare no effort at taking advantage of the huge agro-pastoral potential of the nation.
