African Export-Import Bank for Central Africa: Cameroon to host regional office.

No: 454

African Export-Import Bank for Central Africa: Cameroon to host regional office.

The Minister Delegate on the Minister of External Relations in charge of Cooperation with the Commonwealth, Felix Mbayu, on October 29, 2019, granted an audience to the Senior Manager and Board Secretariat of the African Export Bank for Central Africa, Gerald Chihota, during which an agreement was concluded for Cameroon to host the regional office of the aforementioned bank.

Speaking to reporters after the audience, Gerald Chihota said besides setting up a regional office in Cameroon, the bank intends to spread its presence in the sub region. “The bank has made a decision to set up a branch in Central Africa and the decision that has been made is that Yaounde will be the appropriate location for the branch. But over and above that board mission, we also want to expand our foot prints in the region and to do more business”, he stated as the objective of his mission to Cameroon. The Senior Manager at Afreximbank for Central Africa further stated ad the objective of his mission to Cameroon in the near future in search of other opportunities. “So, in addition to the delegation that had come to discuss the branch agreement, we also have a business delegation that is coming to look for opportunities in the country,” Gerald Chihota said.

Highlighting further on the activities of his bank, he noted that Afreximbank primarily is a trade finance bank. “We play more in the trade finance space, but we also do infrastructure that supports trade. So we are looking at structures like ports, roads, airlines.

As long as there are projects linked to trade, we support them,” he explained. Modalities on the branch office to be hosted by Cameroon will be outlined by both parties subsequently.
