Cameroon drops in World Bank 2020 Ease Of Doing Business Report.
Cameroon has been ranked 167th out of 190 sampled destinations with ease of doing business across the globe. After studying 10 factors favourable for doing Business like: starting a business, employing workers, dealing with construction permits, getting electricity, registering property, getting credit, protection of minority investors, paying taxes, trading across borders and contracting with the government, the World Bank gave Cameroon a 46.1 score out of a total of 100 points available. The Bretton Wood institution notes that Cameroon has only improved in one out of the ten factors since the publication of the 2019 report and that is in the domain of the dissemination of information related to the acquisition of credits in Cameroon.
In response to the publication, “Invest in Cameroon” platform said the improvement by Cameroon in one of the factors is thanks to its confederation of financial institutions within the CEMAC sub-region. The World Bank in the ranking positions Cameroon on top within the CEMAC zone followed by Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Congo, Chad and the Central African Republic in respective order. Despite this, Cameroon still witnessed a drop compared to last year when it was on spot number 166. On the continental level, the first three top positions in Africa went to Morocco, Kenya, and Tunisia while top from the bottom are Somalia, Eritrea and Libya. Overall, New Zealand, Singapore and Hong Kong top the global Ease of Doing business Chart for 2020.
