Business/Economy: Stakeholders make recommendations to better the Social Economy.

Stakeholders who were taking part in the just-ended 4th Edition of the National Economy have presented recommendations to the government to enable the government better the Social Economy in Cameroon. This was during the closing ceremony of the 4th Edition of the National Day of Social Economy, which was presided over by the Minister of Small and Medium Sized Enterprises, Social Economy and Handicrafts, sitting in for the Representative of Cameroon’s Prime Minister, Head of Government, Chief Dr. Dion Ngute.

Following the speech of the Prime Minister, read by his representative, Minister Achille Bassiliken III of Small and Medium Sized Enterprises, Social Economy and Handicrafts, the deliberations of the stakeholders who participated will give way to better policies and actions in the social economy sector.

“Allow me to thank sincerely all the Experts whose plenary presentations and animation of the workshop sessions enabled the participants to be constantly anchored on topics related to the different lines of reflections on Government Monitoring and Supervision policies in favour of Social Media Economy Organisations and Enterprises”, said the Representative of the Prime Minister in his speech.

According to Minister Achille Bassiliken III, social economy represents about 18% of the Gross Domestic Product in Cameroon.

Defining the Social Economy, the Minister said it is the branch of Economy that seeks social equity and it’s generally carried out by non-government actors like Foundations, Associations, Non Governmental Organisations, and interest groups that share common interests.

Among the recommendations that were tabled to the government, the stakeholders urged the government to promote sub-regional meetings of social economy, advocate extension of ministerial devolved structures to sub-division level, promote products and services of this sector to the national and international market.

The Representative of the Prime Minister promised the government would give appropriate attention to the recommendations and ensure the betterment of the sector.

Jean de Dieu Momo, Minister Delegate at the Ministry of Justice and some top state personalities were present at the ceremony.
