ADAMU $ GONI,

A Series on the reintegration of ex-boko haram fighters.

One of Cameroon’s finest series, dubbed “ADAMU and GONI, les repentis,” has started gaining grounds in the country today basing from its colossal impact and unique message it cuts across.

This is a series which lays emphasis on the reintegration of ex-boko haram fighters and their development. The 26-episode play written and produced by Cameroonian born Cyrille Masso was staged in the capital of the Far North region, Maroua.

According to the author, the series recounts the story of a young ex-boko haram fighter who decides to surrender to the Cameroonian authorities. With him is a woman who has been held captive by the sect. After spending a few weeks at the military camp, he returns to his village where he can finally live the normal life he has long dreamed of in the company of Goni, a woman he saved from captivity and later married. Even after then his past kept haunting him as every member of his family and the society rejected and despised him. As a means of repentance, he set up a strategy to reintegrate young people from his village in a bid to discourage anyone from joining the terrorist group, he also went as far as denouncing every act of terrorism to the security force, but his past never left him.

Cyrille Masso, upon crafting this play, was seduced by the feelings of sincere terrorists who are craving for forgiveness and those who aspire to be reintegrated into the society. Others have kept indelible marks of their violence and cry for justice and sometimes vengeance. All this and more motivated the author to come up with this piece in order to promote the spirit of living together and equally sensitize the general population on the perception they have about boko haram.

After battling with the heat in the Northern region for over 2 months, the author and his entire crew finally came up with this series of 26 minute per episode, which is equally the first of its kind in Africa in terms of storyline. The play has obtained a subvention from the US Embassy and is currently been diffused on Canal 2, YouTube and later CRTV.
