On the occasion of the celebration of the 37th anniversary of President Paul Biya in power, North West CPDM bigwigs organized a low-keyed commemoration event at the Ayaba Hotel in Bamenda during which they spoke in glowing terms about the achievements of their ‘champion’ through the various policy options he has adopted during his reign. The Horizon caught up with some diehard supporters and defenders of Biya’s policies in the region for their assessment:
Felix Mbayu:
“We are not only celebrating years of rulership but evidential development exploits and efforts.” Over time, Mbayu said, “we have been able to outline multiple development projects and diverse recognition at both national and international levels which are further proofs of a man who has held and holds national values at optimal esteem.”
Commenting on the recent document letter from US President Donald Trump on the animation of certain provisions in the Agricultural Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) Mbayu Felix told comrades of the party that the communique is clear and not irrevocable. He explained that AGOA represents a minimal part of the volume of USA support to Cameroon. He cited the huge funds pumped through the Center for Disease Control as evidence of US continued assistance to Cameroon. Furthermore, he argued, “trade relations between Cameroon and US involves oil and this commodity like others
is and was not subject to the agreement".
From his vantage position as the receiver of the original documents from the state, Mbayu said "most of our partners come in and trade moves on. The head of state is being solicited on all sides and inadvertently many partners will come in to aid and salute the implementation of the major national dialogue". Mbayu who before now was rapporteur of the Party further expressed the wish for an even more fair and broad space for wider commemorations.
