On the occasion of the celebration of the 37th anniversary of President Paul Biya in power, North West CPDM bigwigs organized a low-keyed commemoration event at the Ayaba Hotel in Bamenda during which they spoke in glowing terms about the achievements of their ‘champion’ through the various policy options he has adopted during his reign. The Horizon caught up with some diehard supporters and defenders of Biya’s policies in the region for their assessment:
Professor Uphie Melo Chinje:
“6 November's bell rings and tells volumes of a man whose selfless efforts and devotion makes clear-cut marks. Post secondary, primary schools, health centers and improved road networks owe their light of day to the head of state. If you go to other nations for over 37 years they have little to show.”
On school resumption and attendance, the Ngaoundere Varsity rector did not fail to outline its numerous advantages. "I am a product of a classroom like many others. It is the gateway to a great and meaningful future. Ascending this far speaks volumes and thus I plead with my children, grandchildren to seize this opportunity and get education. Furthermore, parents shouldn't relent in this concept,” she said.
