Prof. Uphie Chinje Melo, Rector of the University of Ngaoundere and head of the CPDM permanent divisional delegation, is not pleased that her constituency is unsafe and rendered undeveloped by the Anglophone crisis. She therefore sees the appointment of a new SDO and installation of news DOs as an opportunity for normalcy to return. In a phone chat with The Horizon, she said: "I first of all will start by wishing him well as he takes up his new command. Owing to the crisis Ngoketunjia with Ndop inclusive has played host to several confrontations which have continually left our populations under developed".
"Consequently it is my wish therefore that he makes Ndop a safe haven, build and instill peace,unite the multitudes, encourage communalism while discouraging hate speech which only destroys".
“You will agree with me that through the crisis NOTHING meaningful has been achieved. The little success previously harvested is almost going down the drain. It’s therefore my wish that our children be called to reason and rethinking”, she insisted.
The CPDM bigwig expressed regret that “the prevailing sociopolitical turmoil has caused untold hardship and it will only be sensible to stop now and chart a way forward”.
Ngoketunjia division is said to be the home of multiple big guns in the administrative machinery,amongst whom are Paul Ghogomo Mingo, minister in charge of special duties at the presidency; Gabsa Wilfred, Secretary general MINESUP; Gabsa Sixtus head of Disarmament Demobilisation and Reintegration Commision NW, amongst many other business tycoons many of whom have not step foot in their municipalities for over 24 months. To Uphie Melo therefore there can be no direct way of reaching out to the masses especially at a time when mobilisation towards elections is supposed to begin. She is however optimistic that concrete measures would be taken to ensure the masses rights to their civic responsibility.
