The campaign of denigration waged against the incumbent moderator of the PCC Rt. Rev Fonki Samuel Forba has failed to unseat him. He was re-elected November 18, to head the church for another five year mandate, while Rev. Hans Miki Abia was elected as the new Synod Clerk of the PCC, replacing Rev. Babila George Fochang.
The elections, which held at the Synod Office in Buea, saw Rev. Fonki winning unopposed with 119 votes while there were four null ballots and one defective ballot.
In the race of the Synod Clerk, Rev. Milki Hans Abia, Parish Pastor of Presbyterian Church Bonamoussadi and Secretary stood unopposed as his would –have-been contender Rev. Hosea Ngwa, stepped aside. Rev. Miki had 120 votes, while his opponent had four ballots cast on his behalf even though he had thrown in the towel.
Talking to the press after his re-election, Rev. Fonki noted: “I have been Moderator for five years and if the Synod has decided to give me another mandate, I just pray that God would not abandon me on this Journey of my second mandate. I pray God Himself endow me with wisdom and accompany me on this journey so that we continue to grow and make this church stand tall in Cameroon and beyond”.
Speaking about his vision for the new mandate, Rev Fonki observed that, for the past five years the church has accomplished so much, and with the new Synod Clerk, they shall continuously serve as transformed transformers to move on with the activities that had not been completed in the last five years and see how the duo can mobilize resources to build the church by transforming the entire PCC.
For his part, Rev. Miki Hans Abia said he was humbled that the Synod of the PCC has given him the confidence and by God’s Grace he will diligently serve the church. This year’s Synod was christened Synod of Peace and Unity. The PCC 2019 Synod of Peace and Unity opened on Sunday, November 17 at the Presbyterian Church Buea Town with a solemn church service, in the presence of South West Governor, Bernard Okalia Bilai.
