Bilingualism Commission prospects North West Office.
From the look of things, the National Commission for the Promotion of Bilingualism and Multiculturalism, NCPBM, is set to fast track her activities.
On the strength of resolutions of their January 31st 2019 ordinary session, setting up regional branches, a team from the NCPBM was in Bamenda on November 19, 2019 to identify suitable premises to host its North West branch. The team led by the Secretary General, Dr. Cornelius Chi Asafor, inspected temporary office space to lodge the facility in the Regional Delegation of Secondary Education at the Up-station neighbourhood.
The Permanent Secretary at the North West Governor’s Office, Viang Mekala, and concerned Regional technical services facilitated the assignment in search of comfortable and accessible office space to take the service of the NCPBM close to users. Dr. Chi Asafor told the press that the outing in Bamenda was the first stop of the tour that will take his team to all the regions of the country, in efforts to fast track or accelerate the promotion of Bilingualism and Multiculturalism in Cameroon.
The NCPBM was conceived and launched to monitor the implementation of constitutional provisions establishing French and English as the two Languages of equal status and especially ensuring their use in all government services, semipublic bodies and state subsidized institutions. It is also the commission’s duty to propose measures likely to strengthen Cameroon’s bilingualism, multiculturalism and living together. The NCPBM equally receives petitions against discriminations arising from non-compliance with the constitutional provisions on bilingualism and multiculturalism and performs any other task assigned to it by the President of the Republic. It is all about a mission to enhance peace, consolidate national unity and living together.
