Media urged to work for peace.
The President of the International Francophone Press Union (UPF), Madiambal Diagne, says the organisation is ready to accompany the Cameroon government in the efforts for the return to peace in the restive North West, South West and Far North Regions of the country.
He was speaking to the press after leading the delegation of UPF officials to the Prime Minister’s Office for discussions with Prime Minister, Head of Government, Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute, on November 20, 2019.
The visit to the Prime Minister’s Office came on the morrow of the official opening of the 48th edition of UPF general session that ended at the Yaounde Hilton Hotel last Friday, November 22, 2019. Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute chaired the event. Mr. Madiambal Diagne used the opportunity of the visit to the Star Building to call on the Cameroonian media to work together for the establishment of the climate of peace in the country, justifying that the press can only develop in an atmosphere of peace. The yearning of the UPF for the return to peace in the restive parts of Cameroon was more concretely translated through the symbolic gift of a dove to the Prime Minister, destined to President Paul Biya. He said the dove represents peace.
Accompanied among others by the Cameroon branch President of UPF, Aimé-Robert Bihina, the organization’s president came to show their gratitude to the Prime Minister for government’s financial, logistic support and the necessary administrative facilitation for the successful organisation of the session. They transmitted the gratitude to the Head of State, Paul Biya, through Prime Minister, Joseph Dion Ngute. Madiambal Diagne specified that President Paul Biya accepted that the session be held under his patronage and also gave instructions to ensure its success.
