Ambazonia Interim Gov't: Sako in, Seseko fully out.
The vacuum created within the leadership of Anglophone Liberation Struggle following the impeachment of Seseko Ayuk Tabe on June 8th, 2019, by the Restoration Council ,has been filled. Dr. Samuel Ikome Sako was last Wednesday20th of November, in the State of Maryland, USA, sworn in as the first ever elected President of the Ambazonia Interim Gov’t , AIG . His election and subsequent swearing-in came after fruitless efforts to reconcile Seseko Ayuk Tabe’s Kondengui led faction with Sako’s diaspora faction.
Events leading to the inauguration began last Tuesday, Nov. 19th with the announcement by Elvis Kometa, the Restoration Council Chairman, of the election of Dr. Sako. “I come before you today to bring you good news,” Kometa, said that Tuesday on ABC Amba TV. “The Restoration Council votes a new President for the Interim Gov’t, His Excellency Samuel Ikome Sako,” Kometa, who also doubles as SCNC Chairman for North America, announced.
He took time to explain why the election had become necessary. Following the impeachment of Seseko Ayuk Tabe on June 8th, 2019, he said, and considering the promise of the Restoration Council to fill the vacancy created by the impeachment, and following a submission of the candidature of Dr. Sako for the Restoration Council’s consideration by the cabinet of the Interim Gov’t on August 24th, a vote by the Restoration Council was necessary, he said.
Quoting from the interim constitution of the interim gov’t, he justified the exercise as follows; “In the event of there being no President Ad interim or the President being unable to enter his office to exercise his powers for any reasons, the Vice President shall have or exercise all powers, duties and responsibilities conferred on the President. And the Vice President VP, being unable to enter his office, or being unable to exercise his powers in the place of the President, any fit citizen of Ambazonia duly designated by Cabinet and receiving a simple majority vote of the Restoration Council, meeting in a quorum in person or virtually, shall exercise all the powers, duties and responsibilities conferred on the VP.
“In this background, the Restoration Council, considering the gravity of the circumstances facing our revolution, proceeding with great caution, wisdom, forethought, in the highest interest of the 8million people of Ambazonia as primary focus, be it known that the people’s legislature – the Restoration Council, meeting on this day, Saturday Nov. 16th, 2019, in exercise of its constitutional duty voted in support of the cabinet nominee. By this action, His Excellency Dr. Samuel Ikome Sako is promulgated President, Interim Gov’t of the Federal Republic of Ambazonia effective upon swearing-in. The Restoration Council empowers the Chairman of the House to proceed to call a special joint session of the House to include all relevant institutions of the IG as stipulated by the Interim Constitution for the ceremony to swear in the new President.”
That installation on Wednesday Nov. 20th was witnessed by a cream of Interim Gov’t officials, accolades, and well-wishers, including a handful of the clergy. Taking the oath of office, Dr. Sako promised to respect the tenets of governance and to relinquish power when due without attempts at forming another faction of the IG. He equally touted the many achievements of his two-year stewardship as Acting President, citing especially the internationalization of the struggle, the fact that a hitherto unknown Ambazonia is now a household name across the globe and the creation of ABC Amba TV among many other achievements. He said, he looks forward to engaging President Paul Biya, side by side at the Swiss mediation and actualizing the independence of the Southern Cameroons.
Critics who didn’t see the election and inauguration coming, have however, questioned the need for it, preferring Dr. Sako could just have remained Acting President or reconciled with Seseko’s faction.
However, Dr. Sako said during a Friday Nov. 22 address to Ambazonia that with his predecessor in jail, incapacitated, and impeached, the action of the Restoration voting to promulgate him to President was necessary in the face of the anticipated Swiss mediation.
One of the Counties coordinators had on Tuesday, responding to questions posed by Sec. Chris Anu, stated that one of the reasons Dr. Sako’s installation came rather belatedly was because of the background effort they the County leaders had put in place to broker unity between Seseko’s and Sako’s factions. He said they had to give up on the possibility of reconciliation after Seseko on the second instant of their meeting, stormed out of it without giving any reason and never returning.
Dr. Sako, according to the Restoration Council has a two years mandate following which a new election may be conducted.
