Four political parties on track.

Four political parties have deposited heir files in the South West Region to compete for the upcoming municipal and legislative elections announced for February 9, 2020. The parties are the ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM), the Social Democratic Front (SDF), the Cameroon Democratic Party (CDP), and the Cameroon Union for Democracy and Progress (NUDP or UNDP).

The ruling CPDM filed Candidates for all the 31 councils in the South West Region. CDP and UNDP are each vying for two Councils in the region. Already, it is hinted that many incumbents have met stiff challenges in their constituencies from the budding youth benefitting fresh energy. Areas where such volte-face was noticed include Buea Urban, Kupe-Muanenguba and Muyuka for the legislative elections; the SDF has two candidates running for Buea Urban and Fako West Constituencies. Meanwhile, the CDP deposited files of their candidates to run for Mamfe Central, Upper Bayang and Lebialem constituencies. No other political parties presented their files in the South West ELECAM office for Legislative Elections. Experts explained that political parties can either deposit the files of their candidates at the Divisional Council Branches or at the General Directorate of ELECAM in Yaounde.

The South West Regional Delegate of ELECAM indicated that all political parties that deposited files in the region respected the deadline.

At the ELECAM Regional Office in Buea on November 26, 2019 the staff were busy receiving both Municipal and Legislative files that were deposited at the council and divisional branches. The Regional offices of ELECAM have the duty to assemble the files and transmit same to their Yaounde headquarters.
