Cameroon government strives to connect youth potentials.

The Cameroon Government, through the Minister of Communication and the Minister of Youth and Civic Education, on December 4, 2019, announced the Youth Conneckt Cameroon Initiative during a press conference at the Ministry of Communication.
The opening statement of the Press Conference was given by the Minister of Communication, Emmanuel Rene Sadi, who stated that the initiative was aligned with the efforts of the President of the Republic, Paul Biya, to empower young people to realize their full potentials.
According to the Minister of Youth Affairs and Civic Education, Mounouna Foutsou, the youths under the age of 35 make half the population of Cameroon and they are victims of social ills like unemployment, underemployment, antisocial behaviour, and widespread banditry. To the Minister, these account for the efforts of the government to provide supervision and socio-economic integration to young people. Youth Connekt reflects therefore the most recent move by the government of Cameroon to ensure youths are productive and equally interact with their role models.
The Resident Representative of the United Nation Population Fund, Jean-Luc Stalon, lauded the efforts of the Cameroon government in embracing Youth Connekt and said the initiative comes to give young people a platform to communicate and share ideas wherein investors can come and invest on the youths.
“Youth Connekt is an African Initiative launched in 2017 in Rwanda, that seeks to connect young people to their role models, young peers, available resources, expert skills and various economic, civic and political opportunities offered by a number of actors, in order to maximize their empowerment and to facilitate their full participation in development”, said the minister of Youth Affairs and Civic Education in his presentation.
For her part, the President of the Cameroon Youth Council, Fadimatou Iyawa, said the Youth Connekt initiative would equip youths with the right skills and knowledge to take full advantage of the employment and entrepreneurship opportunities that their immediate environment offers for self-development and the advancement of their communities.
The initiative, which started last Friday 6 December and ends today Monday 9 December 2019, is holding at the Multipurpose Sport Complex which is hosting the Youth Connekt village.
Youth Connekt is organised by the Government of Cameroon and supported by the United Nation Development Programme and the National Youth Council of Cameroon.
