Safeguarding a healthy environment through the rational management of waste and toxic hazardous chemicals are some of the priority areas resources at the Ministry of the Environment, Protection of Nature and Sustainable Development (MINEPDED) for 2020 will be directed to. Defending his draft budget of FCFA 7.458 billion before the Committee on Finance and the Budget of the National Assembly headed by Hon. Rosette Ayayi Moutymbou, Minister Hele Pierre said particular attention will be given to the implementation of the recommendations of the Paris Peace Conference (CoP21) and fighting climate change. His budget proposal outlines four programmes which all revolve around the protection of the environment for healthy living of humans and animals. Within the framework of the programme on combating desertification and climate change, the Ministry’s plan of action indicates the continuing operation “Green Sahel” by extending its zone of coverage and interventions in the North and interventions in the North and Adamawa Regions, the development of the National Forest Investment Framework Document and promoting alternative lifestyle activities to reduce pressure on natural resources.
On sustainable management of the biodiversity, the Minister said the Ministry will develop and implement a communication plan on the National Strategy for Sustainable Development as well as a legal and institutional framework relating to the durable biodiversity management.
