BIR assists Muyuka population
BIR assists Muyuka population.
The population of Makanga I in Muyuka Sub Division of the South West Region have received some humanitarian assistance from the 6th Special Unit of the Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR) headed by Lt. Colonel Francis Nko’o ELLA who called on the population to embrace peace, harmony and reconciliation. The BIR Commander made the appeal recently in an event organized to commune with the people of the area while donating food items such as rice, meat, fish, oil and bathing items. The BIR soldiers equally carried out free consultation on inhabitants and provided free medication to the sick persons. Lt. Colonel NKO’O told close to 500 inhabitants who turned out for the great event at the Government Bilingual Nursery and Primary School Makanga I, to shun fear and go about their normal activities even on Mondays that many observe as ghost town days. “The continuous respect of these days has caused untold sufferings on you,” he said
He revealed that the free medical consultation and distribution of food items is part of the commitment of the military to ensure constant communion with the population as well as a means to rebuild confidence and restore peace in the restive areas in the region. The population, through Mr. Robertson Ako, expressed gratitude to the Commander of the BIR for the wonderful gesture which according to him was so timely. They prayed for a peaceful resolution of the crisis which would enable them to comfortably stay at home without further fear.
