Riots at Kondengui Central Prison.
A mixed patrol comprising policemen, gendarmes and prison warders sent by the Central Administration of the Penitentiary Department to conduct a thorough search of phones and other illegal objects at the Yaounde Central Prison, encountered resistance from the inmates last Saturday, 15 June.
The search which started at 6 am in Quarters 8 and 9 popularly known as Kosovo because it hosts 3/4 of the prison inmates turned into open confrontation when instead of looking for phones, the mixed patrol started seizing money and other valuables from the inmates. It should be noted that;
1- The prison administration is unable to feed all the 5000+ inmates in a prison originally built for 800 detainees. 4/5 of the inmates need their phones and money for survival in the jungle known as Kondengui Central Prison.
2- Most of the policemen and Gendarmes sent for the search are those who aided in sending the detainees to prison in the first place!
3- The Ambazonian community together with other political prisoners imprisoned because they stood with Maurice Kamto got infuriated because of the constant harassment from these uniform people! All these grievances turned the search into a bloody battle pitting the inmates and the uniformed people. Inmates could be seen rushing into the sewage tank or the dilapidated sewage to get out excreta and urine that was poured on the uniformed men and women.
Little did the others already in Kosovo know that a similar situation was happening in Quarter 3 which hosts almost all of the Ambazonians and MRC population. The warders, policemen and gendarmes were locked in Commndant's room when they got in to search the MRC vice President, Mota, and Georges Gilbert Baongla. There ensued a generalised fight which attracted other detainees from other quarters to rush in with planks, bucket loads of shit and urine. It was nasty and left many bloodied noses and broken heads but above all stinking men in uniform.
The uniformed people only managed to escape with so many broken heads and blood oozing all over after some other inmates called for calm.
