New General Coordinator at helm of CERAC.

The activities of the Circle of Friends of Cameroon, CERAC, will henceforth be carried out under the general coordination of the spouse of the Prime Minister, Mrs Grace Dion Ngute. She was nominated during the 27thGeneral Assembly of the association that took place in Yaounde on Tuesday, December 16, 2019, chaired by the Founding President and Chairperson of the Executive Board of CERAC, First Lady, Mrs Chantal Biya. Mrs Grace Dion Ngute replaces the spouse of the former Prime Minister, Mrs Linda Yang who has held the post for ten years. Other members of the new bureau include the Secretary General: Dr Veronique Nganou Djoumessi, while Mrs Linda Yang becomes the Honorary President of CERAC.

 Addressing the women, the new General Coordinator, Mrs Grace Dion Ngute, expressed gratitude to the First Lady for the confidence bestowed on her. She also called on all members to give her their full support. Like it is often the case, the General Assembly of CERAC was a moment to have a balance sheet of the activities of the year, introduce new members of the group, as well as recall those who have left.

Speaking during the event, the outgoing General Coordinator of CERAC, Mrs Linda Yang, said over the past ten years, CERAC has worked with the government, the civil society and local communities, to reduce poverty and suffering while promoting health, education and development in Cameroon. Outstanding achievements within CERAC’s three years of activities include education of the girl child, humanitarian assistance to the needy and women empowerment.

Mrs Linda Yang added that CERAC has been a symbol of hope to the poor. Other remarkable achievements of CERAC in the past few years include; the rehabilitation and equipment of a social centre for pigmies in the heart of the equatorial forest in the East Region in June 2012, and the construction and equipment of a bilingual school in Bandjoun in the West Region in March 2014. The progress and financial reports of CERAC were also read out during the General Assembly while plans for 2020 also came to the fore, top among which will be CERAC’s silver jubilee. Going by the reports, the women of CERAC accomplished their mission in 2019, despite the many challenges. A grand cultural gala where friendship ties between old and new members were cemented, graced the occasion.

Created in 1995 by Mrs Chantal Biya, the Circle of Friends of Cameroon, CERAC, is a humanitarian association whose objectives include contributing to women empowerment and the education of the girl child.
