Business/Economy:Modeste Mopa appointed new CREDAF boss.

Business/Economy: Modeste Mopa appointed new CREDAF boss.

The 34th annual conference of the Think Tank and Exchange Forum of Tax Administrators, CREDAF, has ended in Yaounde with the appointment of Modeste Mopa Fatoing, Cameroon’s Director General of Taxation as the new boss of CREDAF.

During the closing ceremony of the 4- day workshop that opened in Yaounde Monday June 10, a key recommendation arrived at was the need to rely on digitisation to improve the performance of the taxation administration with the support of partners like the custom administration.

Another resolution was to develop a legal framework necessary for the execution of computerized controls as well as the means of transmitting data to the auditors. Tax administrations were further urged to set up a comprehensive and biometric file for the entire population and keep subdirectories in the function of the tax status.

According to the new president of CREDAF, Modeste Mopa, “we are going to work hard so that all the taxation administrations improve their performances and also go beyond what we have done with customs administration taking into consideration the recommendations that have been taken within the framework of international conference,” he said.

The workshop that brought together more than 30 countries to Cameroon aims at assessing the location of the digital solutions used within the member countries, and also explore the most promising avenues available to CREDAF countries, particularly in terms of intelligence mobilization.

“I am already delighted with the profit that each of our countries will derive from this work in implementing the process of enlarging the tax base. Given the density and seriousness of the work, the quality of interventions and the basic documentation available, I think it is possible to say that the global objective that we have set has been widely achieved,” the special representative of the minister of Finance, Yaouba Abdoulaye said.

Digitisation lowers the cost of collecting tax for the administration and tax discipline for the taxpayer, while offering possibilities for widening the tax base, thanks to the improvement of taxpayer identification and monitoring, as well as rational exploitation of significant amounts of data from multiple sources, he added.

It should be noted that the 4- day conference that was observed under the theme “Digitisation a lever for broadening the tax base” seeks to identify best practices and the most promising avenues for future development and the promotion of digital solutions that can contribute to broadening the tax base.
