Recruitment of PhD holders into state universities
MINESUP re-assures as disappointed applicants demand “special status”.
The Minister of State, Minister of Higher Education, Professor Jacques Fame Ndongo, says the first phase of the special recruitment of 2,000 state university lecturers as ordered by the Head of State in 2018, respected the criteria of age, objectivity, merit and regional equilibrium.
Professor Jacques fame Nodngo was speaking in Yaounde on Tuesday, December 17, 2019 during a press conference to clarify public opinion on the matter. The minister revealed that from a total of 1,888 applications submitted, 1,237PhD holders have been recruited for the first phase of the recruitment exercise. He stated that another contingent of 500 state university lecturers will be recruited in 2020.
Professor Jacques Fame Ndongo called on disappointed applicants to be patient, adding that he will transmit grievances to the appropriate quarters for consideration. The criterion of age, kept at 45 years upon the date of recruitment, disqualified some candidates. Some press men and women used the forum to question the purported recruitment of some unqualified candidates with Master’s degrees. Professor Jacques Fame Ndongo acknowledged that errors might have been made, but reassured that unqualified candidates would be replaced for justice to prevail.
Some candidates had expressed their dissatisfaction with the recently released results of the first batch of recruitment of the 2000 University lecturers in Cameroon.
Some have since been protesting in front of the Ministry of Higher Education, MINESUP Saturday. They say they will only leave when “a new list” is published with their names therein.
Some of the irregularities found in the results they say include the selection of masters degree holders, names appearing in more than one school, people of over 45 year old taken, candidates who defended after the date line taken and civil servants without authorization taken.
“It is either they take us all, or cancel the results and publish true results”, one told The Horizon.
For Dr Banadzem, one of the protesting PhD holders, it was high time they were granted their own special status by President Biya in recognition of the services rendered for very low remuneration.
