Experts satisfied with 2019-2021 financial reform programme.
The pilot committee of the platform of dialogue for the effective management of public finances that assessed the reform met under the auspices of the Minister of Finance, Louis Paul Motaze. Though the assessment of the reform was generally satisfactory, experts recommended that the 2019 planned goals that are yet to be achieved be given priority in 2020.
In his opening note, the Minister of Finance encouraged all actors spending on behalf of the state to ensure an effective financial management. The Financial Reform programme seeks to rid the public sector of corruption and spur up private initiatives. This evaluation meeting was an opportunity for the experts to peruse state expenses for the 2019 fiscal year and set priorities for the next year.
Speaking shortly after the in-camera meeting that held recently, the Director General of the Budget at the Ministry of Finance, Cyrill Edou Alo’o, said government has taken a series of measures to ensure a quality execution of the 2019 Budget. “We have done the assessment of the implementation of the Financial Reform and we have put together the 2020 plan of action, and it will be easy to continue to achieve the other plans in the area of public finance management,” Cyrill Edou said. Among the key resolutions, the pilot committee would fast track sensitization to boost quality expenditure as well as open a debate on the financial implications of the fresh impetus given to decentralization. The Director General of the Budget further stressed that the transfer of resources to local authorities will entail a relook at the Financial Reform as well.
Elsewhere, the Minister of Finance later chaired the 13th meeting of the Committee in charge of the follow-up of the French Debt Reduction and development Programme, dubbed C2D. As the meeting rose, members pledged to invest more efforts to communicate information about the implementation of the project in order to have the public on board what they are up to. Minister Louis Paul Motaze saluted the progress of the project but remarked that more needs to be done in the communication domain. The evaluation forum also saw the participation of the French Ambassador to Cameroon, Christophe Guilhou.
