The Judith Yah Sunday revolution at CAMTEL one year on.

The gutter press has been awash with muckraking details about Judith Yah Sunday who was appointed General Manager of Cameroon Telecommunications (Camtel) on December 14, 2018 by decree of the President of the Republic, Paul Biya. The clearly sponsored articles coincide with one year of the tenure of the reform-minded and results-oriented GM. She has within this short space of time stamped her reputation and imposed her management style to the chagrin of some sacred cows at the institution. The names of Christian Ntonga and Crescence Sangon, two former high-ranking officials, are persistently cited in a mafia intent on tarnishing the good image of the hard-working DG by acts of forgery and swindling of service providers. They were since redeployed to prevent them from doing irreparable damage to CAMTEL whose current GM is bent on cleaning the mess of her predecessors.

The reforms Judith Yah Sunday is credited with range from upgrading the optical fibre, improving service quality; appointment of qualified and available staff; and giving a listening ear to customers.

On taking up service on December 17 2018, Camtel was vitiated by management errors and an approximate quality of service.

In January 2019, just a few weeks after taking office, 17 employees were sacked for “embezzlement of company values, financial embezzlement, cable theft, forgery, fraudulent line traffic, unjustified absences, ” among other ills.

When she took up duty, he had a goal and the means to reach it. She therefore defined the strategy to be implemented, decided on the allocation of resources and the organization that would enable her carry out her mission. She then set up teams to which tasks were assigned but she made sure their accounts were scrutinised.

Judith Yah Sunday also embarked on defining the business strategy of the company and anticipating market movements. She

manages several files within the company, including team leadership and budget management.

Her role as general coordinator is said to be completely transversal, addressing each of the company's issues.

The GM delegates tasks to each directorate and only supervises the decisions to be taken. A visionary, she was able to optimize the company's performance in the short term, while keeping long-term interests in mind when defining the general strategy.

Silent revolution:

Faithful to her roadmap outlined by hierarchy on December 17, 2018 during her installation, Mrs. Judith Yah Sunday is implementing by dint of strong acts, day after day, the new vision of Camtel.

Upon her accession to the helm of Cameroon Telecommunications, she ordered an "Audit of the company", and proceeded to the elaboration of the strategic vision centred on "CHANGE MANAGEMENT and

CUSTOMER CENTRICITY".

In what has been described as a feat, the elaboration of the company's 2019-2025 strategy has been completed. She has just validated the code of ethics for more commitment of staff at work while respecting professionalism and ethics.

Other achievements worthy of note are improving governance and resolving the problem with the CNPS.

Meanwhile, Camtel retirees who had their dues frozen since 2006 can now collect them. Camtel is therefore up to date with the CNPS. Henceforth, the marketing of capacities from SAIL is effective. The project to connect SAIL to the other landing points, namely the SAT3, WACS, NCSCS, etc is also on course.

In record time, the new GM of Camtel has succeeded in cleaning up relationships with PLANUT stakeholders to avoid multiple fibre optic cuts. Judith Yah Sunday was able to connect Yaoundé and Douala by air fibre, to guarantee the permanent availability of the network. This is in addition to the multiple redundancy loops and the strengthening of the discipline and attendance of Camtel agents.

The GM is in permanent contact with customers and prospects through his email address dg.27.7@camtel.cm. She is available 24 hours a day.

In late November, she met start-uppers and social entrepreneurs. After 48 hours of discussions, Camtel through its General Manager intends to support them through mentoring and funding.

Social responsibility :

The new GM of Camtel has also distinguished herself by sponsoring major socio-cultural, sporting and economic events; supporting initiatives up to the most remote corners of the republic; implementing the phase 3 backbone extension project; setting in motion the project to create the very first artificial intelligence training center; the Camtel fixed network rehabilitation project; the connection of the eight state universities by optical fiber; the implementation of SIGIPES II to digitize the administrations; optimization of cash flow; rigorous expenditure control and meeting with stakeholders in the electronic communications sector to build a relationship of trust and better serve them.

Today, Cameroon Telecommunications plans to set up the first Innovation Center in artificial intelligence which will train at least 100 students during the first year of operation. And 25 ° / ° of the latter will benefit from a full scholarship supported at 100 ° / ° by Camtel and its partners on the one hand, and by the University of Yaoundé 1 through its engineering school-Polytechnique. The successful implementation of this revolutionary project worth 1.3 billion cfa francs will take place at the University of Yaoundé 1 through its engineering school-Polytech and will benefit from the expertise of CAMTEL staff.

And so ensconced on the 12th floor of CAMTEL’s head office, Judith Yah Sunday is engaged in a silent revolution that will take the once unproductive company to higher heights by the time the company's 2019-2025 strategy is implemented.
