The bill to fast track decentralisation met our expectations – Hon. Enwe Francis, MP for Momo West.
Hon. Enwe Francis, MP for Momo West, will not have the opportunity to return to Parliament on the CPDM ticket because he was not retained as substantive candidate. But he says he leaves the House fulfilled that he contributed to voting some very sensitive bills during his 15 years as MP. In this interview he begins by assessing the extraordinary session convened to adopt the new bill to fast track decentralisation. Excerpts:
It was a wonderful extraordinary session with a bill tabled by H. E. President Paul Biya which Cameroonians had been expecting. I think it met our expectations as it was supposed to break the ice and may be clear the violence that has engulfed our country. I think it was an opportunity for especially some of us who will not be coming back to parliament to have been part of this. We wish those who will be coming back a wonderful continuation of our legislative activities in this country. Having worked for this number of years, we have been privileged to vote very sensitive bills intended to make Cameroon strong and united, a country that is preparing itself to attain the 2035 Vision of President Paul Biya for an emerging country. So we are going home so relaxed and calling on Cameroonians to continue to work for peace in our country.
What message did you draw from the House Speaker’s speech?
It was message calling for peace, for understanding and on all Cameroonians to remain united and focused because we have just this one country which we must handle as an egg.
