UN and Minister Atanga Nji in war of figures over Humanitarian crisis in NW&SW.

The office of the coordination of Humanitarian Assistance of the United Nations has contradicted Cameroon’s minister of territorial administration, Paul Atanga Nji, on the statistics of the humanitarian impact of the war in the North West and South West regions of Cameroon.

The UN body in a release last Monda, 30 December, 2019, said 922 thousand persons have been internally displaced by the Conflict, whereas minister Atanga Nji in a press conference on Saturday December 28th, put the number of internally displaced persons at less than 200 thousand.

Paul Atanga Nji said 150 thousand persons have been displaced within the North West and South West regions, while 6 to 9 thousand have been displaced to neighbouring regions like the West, Littoral, Centre and Adamawa regions.

The UN says over 4 million persons are in need in the North West and South west regions.

It its latest statistics, the United Nations office for the coordination of humanitarian assistance said 229 thousand Anglophones live as refugees in neighbouring countries.

2.3 million are targeted by the humanitarian aid program, out of the 4.3 million persons in need. The UN also reveals that just 41% of humanitarian coverage has been made in the regions.

Paul Atanga Nji on December 28th, while announcing the deployment of 100 truckloads of food from President Biya to IDPs, contrastingly said there was no food crisis in the North West and South West Regions .
