SO.NA.RA G.M welcomes South West Chiefs.
Executive members of the South West Chiefs’ Conference [SWECC] were on June 12 at the National Oil Refinery which caught fire on May 31 for a sympathy visit and to learn more about the damage.
While welcoming the Royal Majesties at SO.NA.RA, the General Manager of the oil refinery, Jean-Paul Simo Njonou, cleared the air surrounding the fire incident by explaining that, four production units at the refinery and one tank for crude oil have been damaged. He added that 18 injuries were registered but no lives were lost and that the damages would be repaired within the year.
Jean-Paul Simo heartily welcomed the chiefs, stating that their visit proves their commitment to SO.NA.RA and its workers as true custodians of our land, guarantors of our customs and traditions who truly understand the economic importance of the petroleum oil refinery. The General Manager further said, since the unfortunate incident, government has not been at rest in its efforts aimed at rehabilitating the damaged production units and taking measures for SO.NA.RA to continue to supply petroleum products in the national market.
Speaking on behalf of chiefs who came from all five divisions of the South West Region, the SWECC president, Chief Njie Mafany , congratulated Jean-Paul Simo on his appointment, regretted the inferno of May 31 and extended their sincere sympathy to the SO.NA.RA family. Chief Njie Mafany expressed hope that the refinery would soon get back to it feet, and declare the support of the chiefs to SO.NA.RA at all times.
This visit was closely followed by that of Limbe chiefs, who came for the same purpose, led by their president, Ndiko Fonderson.
