NW DDR Office begins empowering inmates.

The Reintegration Processes of the Bamenda Disarmament Demobilization and Reintegration Office has been launched in Bamenda.

The process will see the Ex-fighters return to normal civil life after obtaining skills on agriculture and entrepreneurs ship. This centre received first 2 ex-combatants precisely on Tuesday Dec 27, 2018. Since then the number has been increasing steadily and as of now the centre is hosting 62 ex-fighters - 55 boys and 7 girls and a two-year-old baby . For over a year the ex-fighters have been taught patriotism, respect of state emblems and have also undergone a counselling process for easy reintegration to the society.

The representative of the Prime Minister, Mr. Fonye Francis who also doubled as the chief launcher in his address recalled that, the Head of State H.E President Paul Biya created the DDR centers in Far North, South West and the North West in order to get lasting solutions to crises in these Regions.

To the ex- fighters in Bamenda, he said, they have been empowered with skills in different domains which would eventually make them to be independent. They are expected to be responsible hard working citizens ready to participate in development process of the nation. He announced that the ex-fighters would be integrated into different job placements according to the most equitable manners considering those who have been in the center for a long period of time.

While expressing satisfaction to the ex- fighters for their patience and responsibility throughout their stay at the center, he equally used the opportunity to call on those still in the bushes to lay down their arms and accept the hand of fellowship extended to them by the President of the Republic, H. E Paul Biya.

Talking to the press, the North West Regional Coordinator for DDR, Mr. Gabsa Nguha Sixtus, stressed on the fact that most of the center’s expenditure is used in the domain of health, given the condition some of the ex-fighters arrived with at the center. The Regional Chief used the occasion to outline some difficulties faced at the center - the rooms need more beds of varied sizes and cupboard. They need a fence round the center in order to check the movement of persons in and out of center.

The ex-fighters used the ceremony to showcase their talent in singing and dancing to the amazement of their guests.
