Biya calls for international conference on “Act II of globalization”.
In a bid to forestall trade wars, distrust between states and misunderstanding between citizens and those who govern them, President Paul Biya has called for an international conference to lay the groundwork for “Act II of globalization”.
He made the call last Thursday at the Ambassadors’ Hall of the Unity Palace while receiving New Year wishes from the diplomatic community.
Responding to comments made by the Dean of the diplomatic corps, Gabonese ambassador Paul Patrick Biffot Paul Biya stressed the support and friendship of multilateral and bilateral partners of Cameroon during times of challenge. He noted with satisfaction, government’s actions in 2019 to maintain peace and security nationwide.
The Cameroonian leader called for solidarity in the face of terrorism, thanking countries like France that have stood behind African countries like Mali, Niger, Chad and Burkina Faso in tackling the phenomenon head on.
Speaking earlier, the Gabonese diplomat praised President Paul Biya’s stewardship of the challenges in the North West and South West regions. As leader of the Central African sub-region, Cameroon, the ambassadors said, remains an excellent replica of diversity and concord.
After the speeches the diplomats took turns to shake hands and wish the Head of State a happy and prosperous New Year 2020. The second phase of the ceremony took place at the Banquet Hall and saw over eight hundred national dignitaries grouped into thirty four delegations take turns in shaking hands with President Paul Biya. They all wished the Head of state and nation the best in the year 2020.
