New personnel to manage toll gates.
According to the Ministerial decision number 001/D/MINTPCAB of January 7, 2020, seventy new personnel have been appointed to various positions at 17 Toll Gates across the national territory. Minister Emmanuel Nganou Njoumessi in the decision said, “newly appointed officials will, according to the law, proceed to replace those occupying the positions with immediate effect.”
It is worth noting that Toll Gates have often been centres of attraction to officials of the National Anti-Corruption Commission, given that most officials managing them, have often lived below expectation. In 2018 alone, over nine Toll Gate teams failed to account for an amount of FCFA 400 Million in the Littoral Region. The situation was identified during one of the several control missions to the Region. This is not a peculiar case as field control missions recently identified similar faults at some Toll Gates in the Centre Region.
To combat this, the transport boss, Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi, stressed that the new Toll Gate Heads will hence submit monthly reports in three copies, one to the regional delegate of the Region where the Toll Gate is found and two others, to the Directors of Maintenance and Protection of Roads at the Ministry of Transport.
In May 2019, the Minister said the government of Cameroon is embarking on the construction of some automated Toll Gates to replace the manual payment procedure. He said the modification concerns 14 Toll Gates across the country, notably along the Yaounde-Douala-Limbe, Yaounde-Bafoussam-Bamenda, Douala-Bafoussam, Yaounde-Mbalmayo, among others.
