Recruitment of PhD holders: Striking candidates end strike as Government to launch second phase.
Government has announced the imminent launch of the second phase of the recruitment of PhD holders into State Universities, prompting candidates who felt cheated in the initial recruitment exercise to end strike.
To that regard, the Minister of Higher Education Professor Jacques Fame Ndongo chaired an important meeting of the Technical Committee of the special operation recently in Yaounde. Attended by Rectors and Vice Chancellors of State Universities, the meeting emerged with key points going forward in the recruitment exercise. According to a release signed by the Minister of Higher Education, the Minister, the Secretary General at the Prime Minister’s Office will soon chair a meeting of the Central Supervisory meeting in view of the second phase of the recruitment exercise.
The candidates who immediately called off their strike action on Thursday January 9 thanked the Head of State for listening to their plight and granting them a solution. They thanked the Minister of Higher Education, Professor Jacques Fame Ndongo, for always opening his doors to them in the past weeks in a bid to seek a solution. “We want to thank the Minister of Higher Education (Prof. Jacques Fame Ndongo) who used the right channel to see that we have solutions to our grievances. We are reassured and I want to inform all our colleagues in the other regions that a solution has been found,” Dr. Lekane Brigitte, one of the leaders of the PhD candidates, said. As one of the measures taken by government to solve the grievances of the PhD candidates, those above the age limit, 45, were advised to apply for the numerical replacement of teachers who have either died, been dismissed, resigned or abandoned their pedagogic services.
The first phase of the exercise saw the recruitment of 1237 candidates who are supposed to have taken up duty at their various universities on January 2.
