“Only a negotiated peace deal through genuine dialogue can solve the Anglophone crisis” - Hon Fobi Nchinda Simon, MP.

The ongoing killings of civilians and the acts of widespread arson in some villages of the two English-speaking regions of Cameroon, perpetrated to a greater extent by the defense forces, in the name of tracking down separatists intent on disrupting elections, are nothing short of a planned genocide which should be placed at the doorsteps of Paul Biya, Head of State, and commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Hon Fobi Nchinda Simon, the firebrand SDF MP for Bamenda/Bali Constituency, the largest and most populated in Cameroon, has warned.

Hon Fobi Nchinda Simon spoke to the press on the heels of widespread killings and burnings in many villages of the North West and South West Regions. The cases of Bali in the NW Region and Tombel in the SW Region are just two examples of a widespread and growing massacre of Anglophones, he said.

The outspoken MP tasked Paul Biya to avert an impending genocide in Anglophone Cameroon. He blamed Biya for all the killings and destruction of both public and private property, arguing forcefully that all the heinous acts are a result of the fact that Biya has remained intransigent and has wrongly opted for a military solution to a purely political problem. Hon Fobi said since the onset of what is today referred to as the Anglophone Crisis, Paul Biya announced his intent to neutralize these Anglophones and has since resolutely closed his eyes and ears to the realities on the field where Anglophones are being killed, maimed, displaced, private property destroyed and the entire economy ruined.

Hon Fobi said Paul Biya has remained steadfast on the illogical logic of maintaining state authority, disregarding the rampant killings of both civilians and defense forces. The MP questioned Biya's love for Anglophones. He further questioned Biya's fatherly instincts towards these children he is killing. The MP insists that Mr Biya should stop the growing carnage that verges on genocide.

Hon Fobi Nchinda Simon stated that with upcoming elections, more military and security forces have been deployed to Anglophone Cameroon and this means more bloodletting. He said elections at all costs is a sure pretext that will lead to more destruction and bloodshed in Anglophone Cameroon.

Quizzed on what he thinks should be the way forward, Hon Fobi Nchinda Simon did not mince his words. He said the Anglophone problem did not start in 2016 but some 58 years ago, and has just escalated due to untold frustrations of Anglophones who over the years have been relegated to the back-burner as second-class citizens. Hon Fobi said as it stands today, only a negotiated peace deal through genuine dialogue can solve the crisis. He said when both the national and international community prescribed an inclusive dialogue as a way out, Paul Biya organized a charade called Major National Dialogue where he talked to himself, without bringing on board the real parties that could engage in genuine dialogue.

It is worthy to recall that this is not the first time Hon Fobi Nchinda is chastising Paul Biya and his government for nonchalance in the handling of the Anglophone crisis. Not only has he written open letters to Paul Biya but he has also written several newspaper articles and granted interviews on what he thinks is the way forward in resolving the crisis. Hon Fobi Nchinda Simon has also questioned cabinet ministers in the National Assembly on their various omissions and commissions in resolving the crisis. He and the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in Charge of Defense, Beti Assomo nearly exchanged blows in the National Assembly when Hon Fobi quizzed him on the purported recklessness of the defense forces.
