Dr Fontem Neba, former SG for Consortium, embraces Anglophone Struggle at last!
The inability of the Cameroon government to act fast in defusing the Anglophone crisis is largely responsible for the radicalisation of the moderates of yore.
One of those government would have ‘tamed’ but neglected to his fate is Dr Fontem Neba Aforteka, former Secretary General of the Cameroon Anglophone Civil Society Consortium (CACSC).
Fontem who spent over 8 months in jail after the banning of the Consortium which initially militated for a federation has now embraced the cause for Anglophone liberation.
In a video produced on 17 January 2020 to mark the third anniversary of his unjust arrest in Buea, Fontem proposed five points to strengthen the Anglophone Struggle.
His first reform proposed was the creation of front with rotational leadership. Five Committees, he said, should be created to handle issues like reconstruction, governance etc.
On the model of independence, Fontem proposed a transitional period within which institutions would be put in place. He expressed that three years on, this has not happened due to bad strategy. The time, he said, had come to rethink the revolution.
The varsity don observed that the idea of an interim government was a mistake. Its creation, he said, gave rise to selfish interests and corruption with unqualified individuals buying positions and hijacking the struggle for their individual gain.
According to Fontem, Sisiku Ayuk Tabe who remains jailed for his convictions, is the leader of the Liberation Struggle. He warned that Southern Cameroonians should support the liberation struggle and not persons.
Fontem expressed regret that a struggle which was founded on a unified vision with no personal gain on the agenda was now being stultified by individuals intent on holding on to power.
He called for an end to betrayal, greed so that we can begin on a clean slate.
The former Consortium SG said he had been a victim of blackmail from some self-seeking individuals feeding fat on the Anglophone Struggle.
The last outing of Fontem was on March 29, 2019 when he organised The All Southern Cameroons People’s General Conference in the US bringing together Federalists and Restorationists. Five major personalities including the Acting Interim President of Ambazonia, Dr Sako Ikome, took part in the meeting.
The Conference was expected to achieve the following:
1. Heighten international awareness of a conflict which has been treated in the media as simple “Anglophone Problem”. It is a burgeoning war that has become genocidal. The international needs to take action to avert another Rwanda.
2. Develop a common strategy for peace within a viable framework for a long term solution and the role the international community can play within it.
3. Reconcile the different political groups and ideological leanings towards a common or consensus position.
