UN to assist Cameroon fast-track implementation of SDGs.
The Coordinator of the United Nations System in Cameroon, Allegra Baiocchi, says the United Nations Organisation is ready to close ranks with Cameroon to fast-track the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the country.
She made the statement in Yaounde on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 during an audience granted her and the African Regional Director of the United Nations Development Coordination Office, Munyaradzi Chenje, by the Prime Minister, Joseph Dion Ngute.
The two UN officials were happy to learn that Cameroon has already completed the contextualization and prioritization process of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
According to the African Regional Director of the United Nations Development Coordination Office, Munyaradzi Chenje, Cameroon as a member State of the United Nations, needs to benefit from the support of the United Nations in the implementation of its Agenda 2030 on SDGs.
“We discussed how we can respond to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda of leaving no one behind, contributing to an inclusive economy that takes into consideration everyone, raising the standards of living and contributing to the conservation of the environment. We talked on how the UN can under the leadership of the government, support these initiatives,” said the African Regional Director of the United Nations Development Coordination Office, Munyaradzi Chenje.
The audience was an occasion for the UN scribes and the Prime Minister to explore ways in which Cameroon and the United Nations can work together to respond to the challenges of sustainable development in Cameroon.
The SDGs, set in 2015 by the United Nations General Assembly and intended to be achieved by the year 2030, are part of UN Resolution 70/1, and comprise: no poverty, zero hunger, good health and well-being, quality education, gender equality, clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, decent work and economic growth, industry, innovation, and infrastructure, reducing inequality, sustainable cities and communities, responsible consumption and production, climate action, life below water, life on land, peace, justice, and strong institutions, as well as partnerships for goals.
