The Minister of Youth Affairs and Civic Education (MINJEC), Mounouna Foutsou, on Monday, 20 January 2020, presided over a ceremony to hand over equipment for the registration and production of Biometric Youth Card to the National Youth Observatory Antenna. The event also gave the Minister the opportunity to inaugurate the headquarters of the National Youth Observatory which is to coordinate the registration and production of the Biometric Youth Cards.

This ceremony took place at the site of the Reference Multipurpose Youth Empowerment Center just next to the structure hosting the headquarters of the National Youth Observatory located at Madagascar in Yaounde.

The handing over followed a one-week training from the 15-21 January 2020 of some staff of the Ministry and focused on using tools at disposal for the implementation of the “Three Year Special Youth Plan” and the production of Biometric Youth Cards.

During the ceremony, the Minister toured the new building to host the National Youth Observatory and made his own appreciation of the facility as he inaugurated.

“I think what we are living today is the testimony of the strong will of the head of state to take all his commitments in favor of young people. When he launched the three-year special youth plan, he instructed the government to achieve those goals and now notwithstanding the context of the security and economic crises you know, he has instructed the government to achieve all those goals prescribed within the three-year special youth plan and I think this achievement shows that we are going forward and this probably”.

He noted that the staff has been trained on operating different equipment and equally promised to speed up the implementation of the plan for the interest of youths in the country.

Mounouna Foutsou called on youths to be patriotic, believe in themselves and become part of the government’s plan to foster inclusion in development.

For his part, the National Coordinator of the National Youth Observatory, Armand Mveme, thanked the Minister for taking the initiative with commitment. He maintained that the initiative is an indication that the government is committed to promoting inclusive growth and youth efforts in stabilizing trade balance.

The headquarters is expected to start bearing fruits for which it was constructed as from the inauguration date.
