How Manyu political patriarch, Nfor Tabetando, used football tournament to contain lockdown.
The population of Manyu Division in the Southwest Region said No to the recent lockdown imposed on the English speaking population by the separatists to disrupt the 9th Febraury 2020, legislative and municipal elections and the February 11 Youth Day celebrations.
While other communities in the English speaking Regions were deserted due to ferocious threats from separatists, Mamfe was in total effervescence and euphoria as businesses were flung open as well as the movements of people and vehicles from one community to another.
This effervescence and total calm in Manyu Division has been attributed to some veritable strategies employed by the elites of the Division , aimed at braving the security challenges.
One of those strategies was a grandiose and gigantic socio-cultural and sporting event sponsored by Manyu political guru, Senate Vice president, Nfor Tabetando, that helped tremendously in galvanising the population of this Division.
The sporting football and cultural jamboree organized by the Mamfe Council and sponsored by Nfor Tabetando took place at the Mamfe Municipal stadium bringing together enthusiastic Manyu sons and daughters chanting and dancing in utter frenzy and jubilation.
During the finals of this ground breaking football tournament, at the Mamfe play ground, with over 4 thousand people, the Mayor of Mamfe Central, Ayuk Takunchong John, said: “We are here today celebrating freely ,while the populations of other communities are hiding in bushes, thanks and gratitude to our political elephant Nfor Tabetando who is our main sponsor for this ground- breaking event that has helped to galvanise our town at this time of severe insecurity reigning in our country.
This initiative helped tremendously in preparing the political terrain, that saw the campaigns for the legislative and municipal elections of February 9 2020 carried out in a peaceful and serene atmosphere. The voting took place in a calm and serene atmosphere as all the ELECAM polling centers opened successfully at 6am and closed unperturbed at 6pm.
According to observers, Nfor Tabetando has been at the forefront of the CPDM in Manyu Division,and was nicknamed Abiola by the late Minister Peter Agbor Tabi Peter, for his colossal contributions in keeping the flames of CPDM Manyu burning with much vigour and vibrancy.
Manyu is the only Division that has put the separatists in a state of dilemma and frustration as the people of this Division stood up tenaciously in braving the hard and crude decision imposed on them by the separatists. Thanks to the Senate Vice president NforTabetando and elites of Manyu, the Division outsmarted the vicious and crude methods imposed by separatists to cause more hardship and human sufferings.
