Youth Day Celebration: Minister Fuh Calistus communes with Donga Mantung Youths.
There was fanfare at this year's national youth day celebration in Nkambe. The magnitude of the celebration could be judged from the massive turnout and the caliber of personalities at the Fon Ibrahim Japfu Nfor grandstand.
Taking place under the auspices of the Senior Divisional Officer for Donga Mantung Division, Nkwenti Simon Doh, the day started with a replay of President Biya's address to the youths the previous night. Those who missed it due to the rampant electricity cuts were able to listen to the head of state's address. It was a moment of silence as the loud speakers installed at every corner echoed into the nearby building for the message to reach a wider audience.
One of the august guests of honor at the Nkambe grandstand was H.E Dr. Fuh Calistus Gentry, secretary of state for mines, industries and technological development (MINMIDT) who doubles as President of CPDM campaign team to Donga Mantung Division during the last February 9 Municipal and Legislative Elections.
Talking to the Press after the event, Dr. Fuh Calistus Gentry said he personally travelled from Misaje to Nkambe to pass across "A Message of Thanks" to the population of the Division for adhering the culture and values of peace. He said he is equally passing across this message of thanks to the youths of the Division for being the hallmark of patriotism. "I am here to thank the population of Donga Mantung Division for their commitment to peace. Thank You very much for giving dialogue a chance".
Minister Fuh Calistus emphasised and urged the population to continue to believe in the outcome of the major national dialogue given that it has already granted the North West and South West regions a Special Status.
Harping on the last twin Elections and its outcome, Fuh Calistus said:" I am thankful and grateful that you plebiscited for the CPDM. Thank you for making the right choice and for voting development". He equally used the opportunity to make a clarion call on other Divisions of the North West Region to emulate Donga Mantung.
Before leaving Nkambe for Misaje, he took time to commune with some youth groups, students and pupils. He expressed gratitude to the youths for making education their priority. " Education is the key to the world", he told a group of GBHS students. On the importance of education to society, he also said he initiated and funded the Donga Mantung Scholarship Fund in order to build a strong education background. It should be recalled that the Donga Mantung Scholarship Fund has produced tremendous results this year. It has reached out to hundreds of needy children and equally supported school PTAs with funds to recruit teachers.
For his part, the Senior Divisional Officer for Donga Mantung also applauded the population for their massive turnout. He doffed his hat to the school administration for the massive mobilisation and participation.
Nkwenti Simon Ndoh called on youths to shy away from violence and embrace peace. He reiterated the fact that the foundation of every nation is built on its youths. The Section President for Nkambe, Gerard Ngala, also expressed gratitude to the youths of Nkambe for their sign of maturity in embracing peace. He also called on the youth to be exemplary in society and in nation building.
Euphoria at Nkambe Grandstand
Children of nursery, primary, secondary and high school as well as youth groups and associations paraded in front of the dignitaries accompanied by thunderous applauses. Singing while marching, the youths also converged across a message of peace and the need to live peacefully. What could never be said in speeches was easily said in the songs. The message from the youth was clear.
When the dance groups took stage, the drumbeats echoed into the hills of Binju and lowland of Moh. Cracking banknotes were showered on the few dance groups that were selected on heat day. At the end of the day, children could be seen in the streets of Nkambe with almost every holding or eating sugarcane.
