After elections, Atanga Nji acknowledges attack by Amba Boys.
The Minister of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji, convened the media after elections to brief them on relevant information on the recent twin elections in Cameroon.
This took place on Sunday, 9 February 2020 at the conference hall of his Ministry.
During the encounter with the media, Minister Paul Atanga Nji confirmed that elections took place in the entire territory counting 10 Regions, 58 Divisions and 360 Sub-Divisions of the entire national territory.
However, to ensure that elections were transparent, the Minister said over 16,765 National and International Observers were accredited to put their eyes on the electoral process in the recent legislative and municipal elections in Cameroon. Atanga Nji said that the observers occupied polling stations in the ten regions.
Opposing observations had it that elections were only in some few polling stations in the North West and the South West. Those who argue from this perspective are making evidence of the ghost which visited some remote areas and became a great impediment that hindered voters from going to vote in the war-torn English-speaking regions.
Following statistics from ELECAM quoted by the MINAT boss, 33 political parties presented candidates for the legislative elections while 43 parties presented candidates for the municipal elections.
These parties were given two weeks to carry on their campaigns in the various constituencies where they registered to participate in the elections as potential representatives of the people.
The call to boycott the elections by some politicians and Ambazonian leaders, to Atanga Nji, couldn't hold water.
"At the close of polls, it is clear that the boycott calls made by ill-intentioned politicians and lame terrorists did not have any impact on the population. Terrorists are hence reduced to social media propaganda and manipulation to influence weak minds," emphasized Atanga Nji.
To him, the elections were void of any flaws and they were a reflection of the positive shift in the developments expected in the democratic process in Cameroon.
