Actors pledge to produce movies for social justice.
Actors and movie directors have pledged to use their craft to speak out against some ills in the society as their own way of contributing to nation building.
The actors took the pledge recently during a three-day come-together in Yaounde to improve on ways of producing movies and related crafts. The come-together dubbed the ‘Young Cineaste Days’ was held at the Muna Foundation under the theme ‘Violence against women and Children. If cinema remains silent, then it promotes it’.
Workshops, conferences, debates and talks all characterized the three-day gathering at the Muna Foundation as the participants looked to use their movies break any taboo with regards to the theme of their gathering.
One of the movies screened at the event. ‘Ne crains rien’ by popular film director Thierry Ntamack, gave a master class on how movie directors and actors could use their films to cut across a message in the society and denounce the various ills. A new genre of film that is gaining grounds in the country with the advent of social media are web series and organizers thought it wise to also pay attention to this aspect. Thus rising star and humorist UlrichTakam was the main feature during one of the workshops aimed at looking at the role web series can play in educating the public against social ills. “I am very satisfied with the level of trainers and participants; this shows our determination to take our craft a step further and impact our society more”, Maimounatou Bourzaka, the head of the Cine Camer Association that organized the third edition of the gathering said.
The same satisfaction was expressed by Dongmo Sopjio Bertrand Alliance, a film maker from Dschang who said he will be hoping to gather the experience he has acquired from the various workshops to give back to some members of this crew who were not able to travel to Yaounde. To him, organizers should look to hold the event twice a year and take it to other parts of the country.
