Cameroon, Denmark to strengthen economic ties.
Cameroon and Denmark have reaffirmed their willingness to close ranks and foster economic growth for the benefit of their people.
The commitment was expressed in Yaounde on Tuesday, February 18, 2020 following an audience which the Minister of External Relations, Lejeune Mbella, granted the ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark to Cameroon, Jesper Kamp, who is resident in the Nigerian capital, Abuja.
Both personalities also used the forum to review the long-standing bilateral ties existing between Republic of Cameroon and Kingdom of Denmark. “Our discussion with the minister was very positive and fruitful both on our bilateral relations on how we can increase our economic diplomacy and economic growth together, and how we can support infrastructural development in the North West and South West regions of the country through UN agencies like UNDP and UNFPA,” the Danish Ambassador, Jesper Kamp said.
He added that the audience with Minister Mbella Mbella was also an occasion to discuss how Cameroon and Denmark can cooperate on the Douala Port Authority in the best way possible given that the Danish company APM Terminals is one of the companies operating and using the port.
On how Denmark intends to support infrastructural growth in the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon, Ambassador Jesper Kamp said they intend contributing in the creation of safe space for women and girls. “In both regions, we have actually approved country direct funding for UNFPA for the specific purpose of creating safe space for women and girls in the two regions because we know there is high pressure from refugees in local communities.” He intimated that Denmark is creating more mobile clinics and improving on the capacity of existing health structures. Denmark, the Ambassador said, will be working in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme to rebuilding some of the local communities that have been partially destroyed by the sociopolitical crisis in Cameroon.
