MINEPAT Communications Director is Mayor of Nguelemendouka.

2020-02-24
No: 473

MINEPAT Communications Director is Mayor of Nguelemendouka.

The Director of Communications and Public Relations (DPRPC) of the Ministry of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development (MINEPAT), Alex Mimbang, has been elected Mayor of CPDM run Nguelemendouka Council in the Upper Nyong Division of the East Region. The seasoned journalist was elected February 18, 2020, during the session of right of this council following the February 9 municipal and legislative elections.

The former journalist and star presenter at State radio and television, CRTV, defeated his challenger by 14 votes against 10. Delphine Nanga was elected 1st deputy mayor.

Alex Mimbang thus begins a new stage in his rich career. After CRTV, he passed through the communications unit of the Commercial Bank of Cameroon (CBC), the Ministry of the Economy and the Ministry of Finance. He was also Commercial Director at the Cameroon News and Publishing Company, SOPECAM.

Alex Mimbang was appointed Head of the Communications and Public Relations Department (DPRPC) of MINEPAT on February 29, 2016 by the then Minister, Louis Paul Motaze. This, after his multiple experiences, both in the public and private sector.

A graduate in information and communication sciences and techniques from the Advanced School of Mass Communication (ASMAC) of the University of Yaoundé II, Alex Mimbang is indeed a household name in the journalism milieu.

In 1995, he joined the Ministry of Communication where he occupied several positions of responsibility at departments of General Affairs, Observatories and Service Regulation, then Research Officer at the General Secretariat until 1998, the year he was seconded to the Cameroon Radio and Television (CRTV).

While at CRTV, Mimbang became, amongst other, senior journalist at the National Assembly, assistant to the chief of TV political service between 2001 and 2005. This permitted him to participate actively in the production of political magazines and in the development of media plans covering major political events. A regular presenter of the 8:30 p.m. TV news, he was also a presenter of political news magazines, such as “Droit de regard”, “Présidence Actu”. This, in addition to his function as assistant to the head of the reporting unit of the Presidency of the Republic at the special reporting division.

In March 2008, the journalist's career took him to the private sector. Alex Mimbang was recruited by the Commercial Bank group of billionaire Fotso Victor as Deputy Director in charge of Communication. But the bank's experience was short-lived, because two years after this new challenge, Alex Mimbang landed at SOPECAM (which publishes the lone bilingual daily Cameroon Tribune) to occupy the position of Director of the Littoral regional agency in Douala.

A few months later, he was called back to SOPECAM headquarters in Yaoundé as Commercial and Marketing Director, a position he held until his recent appointment at MINEPAT. This glowing journey enjoyed by the communications professional was proof that he has the right job profile.

His election as Mayor of Nguelemendouka is only the culmination of a rich and exhilarating career.
