EU, Egypt chart intensification of ties.
The Minister Delegate to the Minister of External Relations in charge of Cooperation with the Islamic World, Adoum Gargoum, on June 19, 2019, held two separate audiences with the Egyptian Ambassador to Cameroon, Medhat El-Meligy and the Ambassador, Inspector of European Services in charge of Foreign Action, Adrianus Koetsenruijter, during which they discussed the strengthening of bilateral and multilateral ties with Cameroon.
The Egyptian Ambassador told reporters after the audience that he held talks with the Minister Delegate on cooperation ties between both countries and the African Cup of Nations which Egypt is hosting (competition began June 21). Ambassador Medhat El-Meligy said all necessary facilities have been put in place and hopes the continental football jamboree will be a wonderful opportunity to improve the Egyptian tourism sector. The Egyptian diplomat said Cameroon is always very present and active in activities organized in Egypt. “Recently, we had a global campaign in Egypt in the fight against corruption and Cameroon was present. I am glad that one of the most active countries present in Egypt is Cameroon,” he said.
For his part, the Ambassador, Inspector of European Services in charge of Foreign Action, Adrianus Koetsenruijter, said he discussed exploiting new working opportunities with Minister Adoum Gargoum. “We had a political dialogue last week which was very successful and we are here to see general relations between Europe and Cameroon. We see Cameroon as a very important country in the region and want to be a partner that Cameroon can rely on and work together so that Cameroon can attain its agenda. I think we have a very good role together and we find mutual interest in many ways,” he stated. As per the prospective areas of intensification, Adrianus Koetsenruijter said they noted areas in economic and investment cooperation, energy and contributing in making Cameroon a more diversified economy to serve its citizens.
