UBa lecturers suspend strike.
UBa lecturers suspend strike.
Lecturers of the University of Bamenda (UBa) have suspended an industrial action scheduled for 18 to 20 June after the UBa administration went into dialogue with them and promised to pay the backlog of accrued allowances of the disgruntled lecturers.
The UBa, through the chapter president of SYNES, Prof Micheal Kpughe Lang, had on 6 June given notice of a sit-down strike should the administration not comply with their demands.
But following frank and fair deliberations with the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Therese Nkuo Akenji, during a negotiation meeting on 12 June, they agreed to call off the industrial action.
In view of the guarantees made by the UBa administration on their payment following negotiations with the Bamenda Treasury, SYNES UBa summoned an emergency meeting on 13 June at which the strike was called off. The aggrieved lecturers were told to submit their bank accounts for the payment of the accrued benefits. Focal Point persons were called upon to scrupulously follow up the payment of these allowances in schools/faculties and provide reports.
Meanwhile, SYNES warned that in the event of non-respect of its part of the bargain by top management, an Extraordinary General Assembly would be convened to define the way forward.
