Chief Justice Barrister Ayah Paul Abine has brought to the limelight the story of a dashing IDP teen who was abducted and gang-raped by the army, then allowed to give birth in a prison.
According to Ayah, the woman (name witheld) “was abducted by the Camerounese military on May 26, 2019, and gang-raped by seven soldiers for four days. The pretext for her abduction was that the military claimed they had SEEN a picture of her on the social media, holding a gun. Her denial that she did not even know what social media meant only aggravated her OFFENCE…

When under labour on Saturday, February 15, 2020, at 4 PM, the personnel of the prison’s dispensary would not attend to her on the pretext it was outside of their working hours. She gave birth alone on the floor as she has no bed. Only then did the prison’s authorities take her and the baby to the hospital.
