Ngarbuh tragedy: London protester 'sets herself on fire' outside Cameroon High Commission ; police to the rescue.
EMERGENCY services rushed to the Cameroon High Commission in London last Wednesday following reports a protester attempted to set herself on fire.
The Met Police, London Fire Brigade (LFB) and London Ambulance Service rushed to the scene on Holland Park Road in Kensington. A spokesman for the Met Police has said it was alerted to the incident in the capital shortly after 2pm, following reports a woman attempted to “dowse herself in petrol and set herself on fire”.
The force confirmed officers “immediately intervened” and the woman was not successful in igniting herself.
The London Ambulance Service treated the woman who did not suffer any injuries.
Two fire engines from Holloway and Lambeth were also deployed to the scene.
One witness shared a video on social media which shows the two fire engines and a police vehicle at the scene.
Along with the footage they wrote: “A Cameroonian protester attempts to set themselves on fire as part of #NgarbuhMassacre protest in front of the Cameroon High Commission in London.”
A spokesman for the Met Police said: “Around 14:10hrs on Wednesday, 26 February, officers became aware of a woman attempting to douse herself in petrol and set herself on fire during a pre-planned event in Holland Park.
Emergency services were alerted to the incident shortly after 2pm.
“Officers who were present immediately intervened and safeguarded the woman, who was not successful in igniting her clothing.
“The London Fire Brigade and the London Ambulance Service also attended – medics assessed the woman at the scene and she was not found to be injured.
“Otherwise the event passed peacefully.“
In a statement the LFB said: “We were called to assist the Met Police at an incident on Holland Park Road in Kensington at 2.11pm and the incident was over for us at 2.39pm.
“Two fire engines from Holloway and Lambeth were at the scene.”
