After Ngarbuh: More killings reported in Babanki, Esu.
International outrage and mourning for the victims of the Ngarbuh tragedy in the North West region does not seem to have stopped extrajudicial killings.
The Cameroon army has again been accused of carrying out punitive raids in Esu, Menchum Division, and Babanki, Mezam Division, leading to more killings and burning of houses.
The Babanki killings which took place last Saturday morning have attracted more attention. The social media is awash with gory images of the corpses of women, men and a child killed in the pre-dawn raid by the army and houses burnt down.
Confirming the killings, Chris Anu, secretary for communication of the Ambazonia Interim Government, said in an audio at the weekend that the continued killings were an indication that the Cameroonian government is not ready to cede to international pressure. Faced with such an attitude, Anu recommended a tit-for-tat reaction from Anglophones. He said instructions had been given to the Ambazonian Restoration forces to send all Francophone civil servants working in the Anglophone regions packing out because they are acting as spies for the government.
Peace-loving Anglophones have distanced themselves from such xenophobic rhetoric, saying Anu’s declaration may spark retaliation against Anglophones living in Francophone territory.
The Ambazonia communication secretary also disclosed that Mallam Danjuma, allegedly kidnapped from a mosque in Ngarbuh by government forces for allegedly telling the truth to the United Nations about the Ngarbuh killings, has been killed. He said Danjuma’s lifeless body was found floating in a river in Kumbo area in Bui Division last Saturday.
