First Lady graces women’s day celebrations in Yaounde.

The First Lady Chantal Biya presided over celebrations of the 52nd edition of the International Women’s Day last Sunday at the May 20 Boulevard. The day was observed under the theme “Promoting gender and protecting women’s rights by 2020: taking stock of actions undertaken, setting a new course”.

In her splendid attire, Chantal Biya applauded the women as they marched past the May 20 Boulevard; she has always been there for women and young girls through her various humanitarian works.

For about two hours, the women marched past with messages promoting gender equality, women’s emancipation and education of the girl child.

Women of the public service as well as state corporations marched carrying messages to show Cameroon has made big progress in gender equality, this through the efforts of the First Lady Chantal Biya.

Women of the Ministry of Decentralisation marched with a banner stressing the importance of women in Cameroon’s decentralization process, and how women will be major beneficiaries to the decentralization process. Women of the Ministry of defence marched past, demonstrating the role of the woman in the preservation of national unity and the territorial integrity of Cameroon, which drew huge applause from the First Lady, Chantal Biya.

Also notable at the May 20 Boulevard was presence of women from sister countries like Nigeria, Chad, Congo, the Central African Republic. The presence of these countries testifies the strong and friendly relations that exist between Cameroon and these countries.
