AGRI-FOOD enterprises receive assistance.
More than 50 actors in farm products and agri-food have acquired knowledge on how to acquire financial assistance from banks and other financial institutions to improve on their production process. The agricultural and agri-food actors are mostly those whose activities are facing the challenge of lack of production equipment such as packaging machines, among others, and for that reason their products have a poor visibility on the market. Many of the participants produce very good products fit for the local and international market except for their packaging and quantities which are still very low.
The Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Promotion Agency in Bamenda trained the SMEs in agricultural and agri-food in view of adding value to their activities by presenting to them its non-financial services. “The workshop is to mobilise all agricultural and agri-food SMEs in the North West and link them to business development services so that they can work together in order to benefit from non-financial products that are being offered by the Integrated Program for the Valorisation and Transformation of Farm Products and Agri-food, TRANSFAGRI, and to enable beneficiaries improve on productivity in the sectors of agriculture, agri-food and the value chain,” the Regional Chief of the Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Promotion Agency of the North West, Anthony Ngwa Akonwi, told the media during the event that held downtown Bamenda, recently, in the presence of the Regional Delegate of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises of the North West, Nathan Ntanen.
The aim is to support 300 SMEs in the North West non-financially such as in diagnosis, business plans, formalization of enterprises (moving income-generating activities to the formal sector), changing from Common Initiative Groups to cooperatives and making sure that enterprises function formally and as expert entrepreneurs and this will bring in added value in the region, create more jobs, increase productivity and value of agricultural products and ensure ready market. Of the many participants (beneficiaries) who came hungry to know and to be helped on how to facilitate their projects is Wirba Blaise of Destiny Farms Enterprise, processing feed basically for all animal species. He lauded the fact that the workshop will help him overcome the challenge of lack of funds to acquire machines to produce in large quantities, improve on packaging in order to secure a better visibility on the market. The knowledge-acquisition workshop, to Thomas Kongnyu, of Mega Food Ltd, has given them a financial status necessary for the acquisition of machinery.
