Kamto survives assassination attempt in Garoua.
Two men accused of attempting to assassinate Prof. Maurice Kamto, leader of the MRC, have been arrested and detained in Garoua North region of Cameroon. According to Prof. Alain Fogue, treasurer of MRC, “the two men who claimed to be security officers attempted to pull the trigger on Professor Maurice Kamto when the party’s security service in the convoy quickly arrested the men”.
Meanwhile, a press release signed by the National Communication Secretary of the party stated that the attempt was made by “two individuals aboard motorcycles” at the entrance to the town of Garoua.
The suspects, it noted, had infiltrated the politician’s procession, and pointed a firearm at him. Two were apprehended but “a third suspect managed to escape.”
“Professor Alain Fogue, National Treasurer of the MRC and member of the delegation, went to present the facts to the Governor of the North”, the release explained, adding that Fogue took with him the “the seized weapon (automatic pistol) and apprehended bearer.”
“The MRC denounces these sad acts, which obviously constitute an attempt to assassinate Leader Maurice Kamto. The MRC demands that an impartial and serious investigation be immediately launched, and that the sponsors and actors of this assassination attempt be tried and sentenced, in accordance with the laws in force,” the release insisted.
Meanwhile, in a release signed by the national president of MO DEC NA on Friday March 13th, Bruno Deffo described the attempt as a cowardly move by people who are standing against democracy in Cameroon.
According to the leader of MO DEC NA party, the government of Cameroon needs to ensure a thorough investigation and an impartial trial of two suspects arrested.
