After frowning at officials over some projects that have already had the approval of the African Development Bank, but are yet to begin, Executive Officers of the bank have expressed satisfaction with the quality of work done on the ongoing projects. Before visiting the project sites, the Executive officers met and held talks with top Government officials. They were received in audience by the Minister of State, Secretary General at the presidency of the Republic, Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh and Prime Minster, Joseph Dion Ngute.
They also held talks with some Government officials that they weren’t Ministers. The week-long visit ended on March 6, 2020. At the different project sites, they sought to gather information that they weren’t yet furnished, which they said, would shape their decision making process in the future.
The first project visited by the team was the Drainage system of the Yaounde City dubbed PADY. Recall, the project just entered a second phase. Next on the agenda was a trip to the Mbalmayo Sub Station. Energy project engineer, Elobo Michael, was at hand to brief the guests. Not far from this site, the pylon and interconnection poles of the 225kv line from the Memvele and 90kv from the project to reinforce and extend of electricity to Minlamizibi, was also paid a visit. From Mbalmayo, they headed for Kribi to visit the Power Development Corporation, KPDC. The team was visibly satisfied with the project, as it had just been completed. They also sized up the state of affairs at the Kribi Deep Seaport.
The cooperation between the African Development Bank and Cameroon dates far back to 1972 with the construction of the Douala International Airport. As of the 31st of December 2020 the AfDB’s current portfolio in Cameroon stands at three billion US dollars (about FCFA 1700 billion) and covers 35 projects. Speaking to the press at the end of their visit the head of delegation, Mbuyama llankir Matungulu, expressed satisfaction with their findings and said they feel encouraged on their cooperation with Cameroon.
