Anglophone Crisis: Ambazonia fighters ramp up atrocities in Jakiri, execute three persons in broad daylight.

Armed separatist fighters loyal to the movement for the restoration of the independence of a country christened Ambazonia are in the eye of the storm after killing Ngum Idrissou and his wife, Ngum Assena during a public extrajudicial execution Friday, March 20, 2020 at the Vekovi village square in Jakiri.

According to open sources, the couple was summarily killed for allegedly having links with the ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement, CPDM. The armed men also killed one of theirs presumably that he has been selling their locations to the forces of law and order.

The incident in Bui Division of the North West Region came days after five Ambazonia fighters died March 11 when one camp attacked another in fresh infighting.

An unrepentant separatist, Capo Daniel, confirmed the Vekovi daytime extra-judicial killings but said it is the handiwork of impostors within their ranks.

“We strongly condemn the public execution of two civilians Mr. Ngum Idrissou together with his wife Ngum Assena and one soldier of the Bui Warriors. These actions do not represent or reflect the conduct of the Ambazonian forces,” the member of the Ambazonia Defence Forces commanded by Lucas Ayaba Cho said.

Prince Michael Ngwese Ekosso, National President of the opposition United Socialist Democratic Party (USDP) said the public executions in Vekovi “do not reflect the ambitions of the Anglophones/Southern Cameroonians whose honest desire is to live in a bilingual and multicultural nation, in which they can be free to say or write what they think without hearing a sudden knock at their doors.”

“These groups of young armed men and women who are being influenced by another set of malicious Southern Cameroonians, most of whom live within the comfort of their keyboards in the Diaspora, should know that their crimes against humanity and perpetration of chaos, killings, intimidation, kidnappings, ransom collection from amongst our own people, as a form of trying to measure up with the struggle, has counter implications,” Ekosso said.

The USDP leader warns that “such ill-conceived policy of winning the struggle by inflicting unbearable pains and committing heinous crimes against our people must stop!”

“We are compiling a systematic report of all atrocities committed in the ongoing war and the various crimes against humanity. At the end of the day, we shall submit our reports to the competent National and International Community for appropriate actions,” said Ekosso, urging the armed men to stop hostilities and go for dialogue.”

Human Rights Watch has accused the armed fighters of committing untold atrocities in pursuit of their independence struggle including using education as a weapon for political gains.
