Jovi nominated for best rap category.
Cameroonian rapper Ndukong Godlove, popularly known as Jovi, has been nominated for the best rapper award at the 2020 ‘256 hip hop awards’ in Uganda.
The award is one of the biggest in East Africa and seeks to recognize the efforts of the growth of urban music in Africa. Jovi is the only Cameroonian nominated for the award which holds on May 15 at the National Theatre Auditorium in Kampala, Uganda. He was nominated after his album ‘God Don Kam’ released in February 2019 made waves in Uganda and remained top of the musical charts across the continent. The ‘Don4 kwat’ rapper will be up in the category against some heavyweights in the continent like Nigeria’s MI Abaga, Ghana’s Sarkodie or South Africa’s Nasty C.
Jovi’s nomination in the category will see him renew his lyrical rivalry with Ghana’s fastest rising rapper lyrical Joe after the pair was involved in a war of words and lyrics last year over who is the best in Africa.
Jovi has a huge fan base in Uganda where he visits regularly to perform at the Nyege Nyege festival alongside Reniss. He has headlined the show for the past two years and is expected to be present at this year’s edition which holds from September 3-6 in Njeru, Uganda.
